This style of Wolf Hook has been made popular due to the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, where our Slavic cousins have adopted the symbol as their 'Symbol of Resistance' against pro Russian forces. 

The emblem itself  is said to represent the letters N and I - or National Idea, and is being used by various Nationalist groups, including paramilitaries such as Azov, who also use the Black Sun.

This style of Wolf Hook is often associated with the Black Flag companies of the peasants revolts - as well as National Socialism. The Wolf Hook was made a popular symbol in Germany thanks to the book Warwolf, which carried a Wolf Hook on the cover, like these examples below.
